After news that some of the €5 billion earmarked for the European Energy Programme for Recovery (EERP) could now be spent on energy efficiency projects, following a deal secured by MEPs (16/04/09), Catherine Bearder commented: "It is very encouraging that energy efficiency could once again be part of the European Energy Programme for Recovery."
"Liberal Democrats have been arguing for this in both Brussels and Westminster because it is money that can be spent immediately to create jobs, help those who are struggling to pay their energy bills, and to make our homes more environmentally sustainable."
"Let us hope that the Labour Government backs the plans and shows more care for those suffering from fuel poverty than it did when it blocked David Heath's Fuel Poverty Bill in Parliament."
