This week terrorists were thwarted by the actions of the German authorities. Chemicals for explosives were uncovered and arrests made. Many Germans were shocked to learn that that two Germans had been arrested. Germany has soldiers in Afghanistan but did not send troops to Iraq. Terrorist attacks have been rare in Germany.
"On Wednesday evening I was taking the high-speed Thalys train to Brussels from Cologne. The train stopped for about 2 hours just outside of Aachen at Stolberg railway station. An announcement was given about a bomb scare but no one seemed to know what was happening. Some passenger got off and took a local bus to Aachen. I stood on a dull, grey and wet platform at Stolberg until the all clear was given and the train resumed its journey to Brussels. Normally this trip takes under 3 hours but on Wednesday evening it took 5 hours. Now I know why: the good job done by the German authorities." John said.
